Inner Beauty is the Best Form of Beautiful

The beauty that should capture one’s soul

Comes from within a person, one who knows

How to make others feel valued and of worth,

That our very presence is a gift to the earth.

This beauty is infused by the wondrous light

Of one who has learned through their plight

That we all share a form of shared humanity

Which we need to work at trying in others to see.

This beauty isn’t defined by our color or races,

Or the products we buy to enhance our faces.

Instead, the inner beauty that never grows old

Comes from treating people the way we are told.

For we learned in our churches and in our schools

To live every day by the tenets of the Golden Rule.

Doing unto others as you wish them to do to you

Is the real definition of a beauty that is true.

Written for the Sunday Writing Prompt from Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie: write a poem or prose on how you think of inner beauty.
