Lord, may I always speak with the tongue of the wise,
No rash or ugly words that like swords can destroy.
May I constantly speak words that bring healing,
Being ever careful of the words that I deploy.
For I am acutely aware of the power of words
And of their life-long impact on people’s lives.
So, Lord, let me always think twice before I speak,
Using uplifting words that help people to thrive.
Written for the OctPoWriMo Challenge of 31 poems in 31 days. Day Seven prompt is Tongue–Tasting or Speaking. Proverbs 12:18: There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Yes- words can be wielded like swords to destroy and hurt or used as a salve to heal. The isticks and stones schoolyard rhyme is not quite true.
