The Dog Whom I Loved!

Yes, I wrote “whom” because Kasey, my beagle mix, was more like a human being than some of the people I knew! His bark was worse than his bite, but I think he liked making people think that he was fierce, howling when someone knocked on the door in the night.

But, friends had only to rub his head and watch as his eyes lit up, as he tried to hoist himself into their laps. They would blink in surprise and try to shrink away from him. I would have to grab him by the collar, screaming, “No, Kasey!” at him. He was baffled by their unwillingness to play with him.

The problem for my friends was that no matter what I tried, Kasey had smelly breath. The doctor tried every type of phronesis on the condition, but after various treatments to find the source of the halitosis, nothing worked! one cure involved feathers! Believe me, you don’t want to know!

Still, I loved him, bad breath and all, and he thought that I was the best thing since cornbread with honey on it! I paraded around with him, as if he had no shortcomings!

Fictional story written for Wordle #169 from Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie. The twelve words are hoist, blink, phronesis, smell, eyes, shrink, baffle, feather, various, bite, source, and parade. Also, for the Three Things Challenge from Pensitivity 101: rub, collar, and howl.
