Jazz is my favorite music, for the cool sounds of Marsalis, Monk, Gillespie, and Baptiste make my feet move and take away my sorrows. To hear jazz played around the world reminds me of our connections to each other across the categories created to separate us and define us as different. When I feel the darkness of depression descending, I put on some jazz, and I start to dance until laughter bubbles up from my belly.
