Don’t Ever Lose Your Faith!

Daily writing prompt
What is the most important thing to carry with you all the time?

I take my faith with me everywhere. Faith looks different for everyone. What we believe in or Whom we believe controls the universe impacts the level of love we are willing to give away to others and to ourselves, our courage to step out of our comfort zones and see possibilities in seemingly impossible situations, and our willingness and ability to see and appreciate the humanity of others. Carrying our faith with us always doesn’t mean displaying large crosses or other symbols of organized religion.

When your faith guides you, you don’t have to tell people who you are because your life is a testimony that you are connected to a Source greater than yourself who guides your interactions with others and whom you seek to please. Carrying our faith with us each day means being the same person and doing what is right, noble, true, praise-worthy, and excellent every day of the week, and not just on the days we worship in a building with others who share our religious or spiritual beliefs.

I was always afraid to drive a car, and the one time I tried to learn, the instructor informed me that I was meant to be a passenger. But, at age 50, I decided that with faith, I could drive. I took lessons and passed the driving exam, but as a new driver, I had lessons I needed to learn that could only be taught on the road. One day, as I waited to turn left into my bank, a fellow driver waved at me to go. I didn’t know that I needed to make sure both lanes were clear, so I took off. Halfway into the turn, I saw a truck barreling down on me, and we were so close to hitting each other that I could see his fear. I panicked and just sat staring at him.

Suddenly, I felt pressure on the foot on the accelerator, and I shot into the parking lot, and he missed me by sheer inches. I sat afterward with tears in my eyes at the thought that I could have killed another human being in my ignorance. I didn’t think that I could drive myself home. But then I thought of the pressure on my foot that had probably saved two lives, and I just thanked God whom is the Author and Finisher of my faith that I was not alone in the car. With faith in His care and love, I drove home without incident.

I bought my last car on July 25, 2023, a 2024 candy apple red Honda CR-V Hybrid Sport. I still pray when I get into the car. I thank God for the angels that drive with me and for me. I will not get in my car without my faith. I won’t get cocky and think I don’t need help after over 20 years of driving.

Don’t leave home without your faith. Faith is an action word, meaning that our faith should control our lives, guide our movements and relationships, and help us to love and value others, especially those whom we consider different from us in how they worship and in the social categories constructed to divide us. Faith shows!

  3. Thanks for sharing this amazing testimony about God who is always watching over us. It is very important that before we begin our day or travel anywhere, that we say a word of prayer. Prayer draws us near to God and faith keeps us close. Both are very important in a Christian’s life.
