When We Can Only See the Value of Others and Not Our Own: Sunday Whirl

Caroline is a hostage to the opinions of others. It gives her grief when she gathers with friends and strangers alike. She would like to scale the heights of success that others have achieved, but she can’t speak words like some of her friends. She is short and squat, not long and tall, so she can’t pull off the designer looks that seem effortless on her friends Sandy and Lola. She tends to envy everyone in the room with a huge sigh, but she keeps her thoughts veiled with a smile. With her pocketbook strap wrapped slackly around the hand not in her pocket, she barely notices that others look back at her with just as much discontent. Indeed, she is envied and valued because of her poise and willingness to listen to everyone in times of trouble.

A fictional story written for Wordle #623 from Sunday Whirl. The twelve prompts are in bold print.
