I never had the dexterity for a hobby, like knitting, crocheting, or sewing. My mother didn’t let me learn to skate, ride a bicycle, or swim, so I was a loner with my books. I could spend hours in the house visiting other lands and learning about how other people lived. No day is complete even now without opening a book and reading a few lines before bed.
Books are like friends to me, the kind that don’t talk about you behind your back or criticize your dreams. For a long while after the Kindle e-reader came out, I would only read books electronically. I must have nearly 100 books on the latest Kindle. But, I suffered insomnia and started to be lethargic during the day. The doctor told me to stop reading the Kindle at least two hours before going to bed, because of the blue light, or something like that.
So, now I buy hardbacks and paperbacks to leave on my bedside table, available for the last joy of the day. Reading inspires me, gives me hope from the stories, and convinces me that I am capable of doing the same as the protagonists in my books. I love, love, love British murder mysteries. The idea that he police always gets the bad guy or gal appeals to my sense of justice and right.
So, books are my sweet spot, and sitting at night in an armchair with a book in my hand and the words giving me pleasure just can’t be beat. It is less strenuous than biking or swimming, and oh the wonderful places I go!

Thanks for sharing these books. Anita

I am a huge reader as well. My mother was too because she didn’t know knitting or sewing.

I love to actually hold a book in my hands. The kindle just isn’t the same. I’m with you. Books are my hobby, too. I tried to learn to crochet and knit. All I accomplished was stabbing my fingers with the knitting needle and tying my fingers with the yarn!
