Psalm 118:24 This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.
Nehemiah 8: 9-10 Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were interpreting for the people said to them, “Don’t mourn or weep on such a day as this! For today is a sacred day before the Lord your God.” For the people had all been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law. And Nehemiah continued, “Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength!”
With the Holy Spirit in those who call on the name of the Lord Jesus as Savior and Lord, each day is a time to surrender our wills to God. When we study the Scriptures each morning or evening, we learn that every day, we have so much to rejoice over, even in the difficult times.
As the formerly exiled Jews listened to the Torah being read and interpreted, they started to weep and mourn. But Nehemiah, Ezra, and the Levites reminded the people that it wasn’t a time for mourning or sorrow but to celebrate with rich food and sweet drinks, sharing with those who had nothing prepared.
It was a sacred day, a holy day, as they learned of the goodness of God and of His mighty power towards their ancestors and to them. It was a day to joyfully acknowledge the love of God and to recommit to doing God’s will in their lives.
Whatever today may bring, take time to read about the goodness of God and be reminded of the great acts and wonders He has performed for you and others. Then, rejoice in the Lord, and again, I say rejoice.
Amen.
