God’s Miracles Testify that He Has Us in His Hands: Sunday Devotion

A Park in Porto, Portugal, June 2023

Psalm 66: 5-9 Come and see what our God has done, what awesome miracles he performs for people! He made a dry path through the Red Sea, and his people went across on foot. There we rejoiced in him. For by his great power, he rules forever. He watches every movement of the nations; let no rebel rise in defiance. Interlude Let the whole world bless our God and loudly sing his praises. Our lives are in his hands, and he keeps our feet from stumbling.

One of my favorite hymns during the one year I attended a church as a child was He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands. As a nine-year-old, I thought God must have really BIG hands! I sang as boisterously as possible, “He’s got you and me, sister, in His hands! He’s got you and me, brother, in His hands! He’s got the little bitty baby in His hands! He’s got the whole world in His hands!”

It was reassuring to think that I was in God’s hands and no one could snatch me out of them. I still feel that sense of safety today, for the miracles that He has performed in my life testify to His nearness.

In witnessing His care and protection for others, I understand that we are not alone. It is also in the wondrous acts He has done in my life that I can relate to and believe in the reality of the parting of the Red Sea and other miracles of the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. When we testify to His goodness, we encourage other people who need desperately to believe that God is with them.

So, let us praise God in the sanctuary, singing loudly and shouting our gratefulness for all He has done for us. Praise Him in the streets, people of God, and tell your stories of how He has kept you safe from stumbling in physical, emotional, and spiritual ways. Glorify the Lord our God and announce to the world that our Redeemer lives, and His mercy and unfailing love will endure forever. He continues to have the whole world in His strong and loving hands.

Amen.
