I Still Squeal When I See a Corvette

Daily writing prompt
What is your all time favorite automobile?

I nearly made Douglas have a wreck, screaming, “Vette! Vette!” Every time I see one, I go nuts! I have wanted one for years, but before, at 4 feet and 11 and three-fourths inches, I couldn’t reach the accelerator and brake on the yellow and green psychedelic one I tried out one day. I had to be happy taking a picture sitting in a red one!

There is something about the Corvette that touches the adventurer in me. I dream of flying down the Autobahn in Germany in one, driving it to its limits. It seems like the coolest car ever, including those cars that cost millions more. I envy the drivers.

A couple of years ago, we went to Louisville, Kentucky, for some reason, and on the way back, we passed the Corvette Museum. We had to stop. We spent nearly three hours there, as I had to read every card on each Corvette. They had had a sinkhole develop under the place, and many beautiful old Corvettes were damaged beyond repair. I nearly cried seeing them in such a state.

If you drove a Corvette, entrance fees were free. But I gladly paid to enter what I considered “car heaven.” If I am feeling down, all I need to see is a candy-red Corvette drive up beside me and hear the engine roar. I start to squeal and scream. I wave so frantically at the driver, open my window, and shout, “She’s a beauty!” I think the envy on my face makes them know that I am a fellow enthusiast.

Once, an older woman near my age (72) was driving a beautiful black Corvette, and I wanted to say, “Look at you, Sister girl!” I just waved. I felt too emotional at seeing that she knew she was the coolest person on the planet in my eyes. I could imagine what people thought when she stepped out of the car. Of course, at 4 feet and 10 inches now, it’s even more of an impossible dream, but considering my 2024 Honda CR-V Sport Hybrid has to help keep me in my lanes, it’s probably for the best.

Corvette Power!
