Ezekiel 36: 26-27 And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.
No matter how long one has been worshiping the Lord, the trials and struggles of life tend to wear us down. A fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit renews our hearts and hopes, and we can surrender our lives again to the Most High God. A new spirit and a new heart allow us to recommit our time, talents, and finances to the work of the Lord. The fruit of the Spirit includes love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, gentleness, patience, faithfulness, and self-control. Having more of these traits helps us stay focused on God’s will for our lives.
A fresh anointing gives us new perspectives and reminds us that He Who Promised is faithful. He will give us a heart of flesh that can feel empathy and compassion for others, and He will take away the heart of stone that congeals from the daily hurts, disappointments, and disillusionments in a world where hate and disrespect for the humanity of others occur much too often.
After repenting for his sin with Bathsheba, King Davis asked the Lord God in Psalm 51:10-13, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners shall be converted to You.” King David understood the benefits of a fresh anointing of the Spirit in cleaning our hearts and making us capable and willing to do God’s holy will.
Amen.
