Know the Source of Your Strength: Saturday Devotional

Amsterdam, June 2023

Hosea 11:1-4 “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and I called my son out of Egypt. But the more I called to him, the farther he moved from me, offering sacrifices to the images of Baal and burning incense to idols. I myself taught Israel how to walk, leading him along by the hand. But he doesn’t know or even care that it was I who took care of him. I led Israel along with my ropes of kindness and love. I lifted the yoke from his neck, and I myself stooped to feed him.

Today, political divisions threaten the unity of the Body of Christ. We have lost our focus on the One Who is our Source, the Lord God Almighty. God is in control and will ultimately care for His own, regardless of who is in the White House. Before there were politicians, God called His people from among the nations; with His strong right hand, He taught them to walk in spirit and truth; and He loved them with unfailing love. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit act as a rope of three strands that are not easily broken, wrapping us in times of trials and troubles with human cords of love and kindness.

Let us not idolize politicians and other humans; instead, we must put our faith and hope in the Most High God. Psalm 118:8-9 states, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in people. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.” Let us be one in unity in Christ Jesus, trusting In God to always ensure that what is best for us will occur.

Amen.
