Enter into God’s Presence with Gratitude: Tuesday Devotional

Porto, Portugal, May 20, 2023

Psalm 118: 19-21 Open for me the gates where the righteous enter, and I will go in and thank the Lord. These gates lead to the presence of the Lord, and the godly enter there. I thank you for answering my prayer and giving me victory!

I count waking up every day as a victory because I have come so close to death on more than a few occasions. When we close our eyes at night, we have a reasonable expectation that we will open them again the next morning, but there are no guarantees. So, every day that God gives us is a reason for gratefulness.

I remind myself that every day is new and unique, one we haven’t seen before and will not see again. I thank God for waking up, and particularly for walking up in my own bed and in my right mind. Victories don’t have to be huge successes, such as a new car or house. The sheer joy of another day to love my husband and make him smile, talk with my children, read a good book, eat a good meal, or just revel in walking in the sunlight is victory enough for me. Each new day allows me to keep praying for the world to find peace and love until Jesus returns.

The righteous who trust in Jesus and believe that He is the Son of God resurrected to save us from our sins should consider every day a new chance to say thank you for our victories, small and large. What one person views as a victory may not seem so to others. Victories are in the eye of the beholder. Every day, enter the presence of God with gratitude for the victories in your life.

Amen.
