Time Isn’t a Replaceable Product, So Use It Wisely!

Daily writing prompt
Do you need time?

Like anything that is limited in supply, you must be smart with your time. Now in my seventies, I realize that I don’t have as much time left to visit all the places I want to see or do all the planned activities, such as learning to quilt. Therefore, today, I appreciate the older adults who used to tell us to spend time wisely, because when the day is gone, you can’t get that time back.

I look at my children in their fifties and grandparents and realize that time passed quickly. I wish I had made more time for them, instead of accepting overtime whenever it was offered. It was more important to give them all of life’s good things that I didn’t have growing up poor. I look back and think of how much laughter, love, and leisure I could have had and the joys I missed.

The good news is that as long as I have life in my body, I have time to do some of the things I want to do with family and alone. I will start lessons in quilting at the senior center and the library. I may not have time to be the greatest quilter, but just the joy of trying and the camaraderie of being with other women will make the time I spend worth it.

Douglas and I are planning our travel for next year, including a trip down the Danube River and Portugal to see the grandchildren. We understand better that we must use our time more wisely when we travel, not attempting to see everything but knowing the important places we want to experience.

So, young people, meaning anyone not yet 70, spend your time wisely in pursuit of the activities that matter. Yes, we have to work, but as Americans, we work more hours a week than any other developed nation, and we take more of the pharmaceuticals, too. Think about those two facts! Take time to enjoy life while you can fully immerse yourself in the fun and joy of each day. Spend more time with the people who matter most to you. It is time well spent.
