One University, But the College of Life was the Best One

Daily writing prompt
What colleges have you attended?

I earned all of my degrees from one university, Georgia State University, and at age 73, I am still earning degrees there, mainly because now it is free. I have a BA. Ma, and PhD in Sociology, and I am working on a MA in Religious Studies. But, it has been the lessons I learned in the university of life experiences that have served me best and actually made attending university a success.

It is the lessons I learned as a single parent of five kids and a working mother that made my Sociology classes interesting and the As possible in every class. It was the tears and frustrations of trying to keep our heads above water that taught me to trust in the Lord and not lean to my own understanding.

It was surviving colon cancer that made me understand that bad things happen to good people, and that when troubles come, it don’t mean that we have no faith, but that we live in a flawed world where inequality and hate take center stage and we have to learn to overcome them in our lives if we want to make the world better for us all.

it’s great to go to college, but the lessons that the college of life gives us makes us more human and smarter than all the textbooks in the world. Remain a life-long learner in the college of life and achieve greater things than anyone would have believed possible in you.
