In a Garden, We Become One in Our Love of Flowers

Gibbs Garden, Ball Ground, GA, December 2024

Douglas and I visited a garden located about 90 minutes from our home. It is Gibbs Garden, and we were fortunate to go on the last day that they were open in 2024. It was the end of the Japanese Maples blooming, and it was so cold that nothing else was blooming. However, it was worth the discomfort, for I never saw reds so glorious in my life.

As it was the last day of the season, there were a few other brave souls who endured the cold to see the absolute beauty of the place. As we walked around admiring every thing we saw, people shared in the awe of the vibrant colors, the wonderful statues, and the beautiful scenery. I would have endured anything to remain in the environs of so much glorious gifts. I immediately thought of Psalm 24:1, “The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein.” There was a sacredness that I always feel in a garden. There is a saying that you are nearer to the Lord in a garden than anywhere else.

Below are some of the photos I took. I hope that they imbue in you a love for the beauty in the world and a hope that there is a power greater than us all in control of the universe. I am grateful for colors and flowers. People of all ages, races, ethnicity, and social classes smiled at and remarked to each other on the sheer beauty we had the good fortune to share on that wondrous day. We became one in our love of flowers and beauty. There are no divisions, just joy to share these views ans this moment together. Douglas and I became members of the garden, and we look forward to the daffodils in March, if not earlier.
