Let 2025 Be a Year of Restoration for the World!

Hosea 6: 1-2 “Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds. After two days he will revive us;
on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence.

Hosea prophesied to the Northern Kingdom to return to the Lord before they found themselves defeated and exiled by the Assyrians. The people were calling on Egypt and Assyria for help, rather than trusting in the Lord God Almighty who had acted like a husband to them. They had stopped learning about the Lord, because the priests had ceased teaching the law.

Therefore, the Lord says in Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will reject you from serving as My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I will forget your sons.” So, Hosea called on the people to repent and return to the Lord, for a time of restoration to occur.

The world needs the knowledge of the Lord today, as many countries elect authoritarian leaders who seek to increase their wealth and that of other oligarchs but on the backs of the middle and working classes around the world. We need to be fishers of men and women more today than ever before, to give people hope and a future, as promised by the Lord to His people (Jeremiah 29:11).

Let 2025 be a time for studying the Lord’s words and remembering that the Lord prefers that His people display justice, mercy, love, and compassion on all people. He doesn’t want sacrifices of attendance in religious places or even giving of lots of money, if there is no love for God and for one’s neighbor in our hearts.

Let 2025 be a year of restoring love as the basis of our dealings with each other, seeing the humanity of all people, and not deeming some people more worthy of God’s love than others based on socially-constructed categories of difference and on superiority and inferiority. We are all made in the image of the Lord God Almighty, so let us look for and respect each other’s humanity. The love and peace of the Lord which surpasses all understanding will restore our hearts and souls, and maybe we will study war no more.
