He woke with a gasp, the metallic taste of blood filling his mouth. The hair on his neck bristles from the fear that his foes may have followed him and will continue to try to hurt him.
Colin had known that spewing hateful words at the young woman in the lace dress just because she didn’t welcome his advances was wrong. But in his humiliation and shame, he kept following her down the street calling her vulgar names. He couldn’t stop, even as she pleaded with him to leave her alone.
He wasn’t prepared for a group of young boys to materialize out of the darkness and confront him for his actions. He only realized that he was in trouble when the first rock struck him in the face. He tried to dodge the barrage of stones being hurled at him with such force that he could feel when his nose broke and the lights went out.
Now awake and laying in the street, he picks himself up and hobbles to his car. As he heads toward the nearest hospital, he is frank with himself. First, he needs to get professional help for his anger. Second, he has to stop being a goat and terrifying women, particularly because being rejected by women causes him to lose all objectivity and become a hateful person with an ugly mouth. He knows that his hatefulness came home to roost tonight. He figures he is blessed to still be alive.
Fictional story written for Fandango’s Story Starter #183. The prompt is in bold. The Three Things Challenge #M932 prompts are frank, first, and figure. Fandango One Word Challenge prompt is Bristles. Ragtag Daily Prompt is Goat. The Daily Spur prompt is Lace. I used goat defined as a lecherous man.
