Ode to Single Mothers: You Are True Winners

Art from the GIANTS exhibition at the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Georgia

The jury has deliberated.

I can confidently say

That you are winners,

Because of the things you do each day.

You juggle jobs, kids, and friendships,

Showing your love for others.

It’s no jest that you are queens,

The kindest people and great mothers.

Rugby practice and piano lessons,

You are constantly on the go.

Though you must get tired,

You focus on helping your kids to grow.

You aren’t perfect and don’t try to be,

Sometimes you burn the toast.

Single mothers, this poem is for you,

Who do the work without a boast.

Written for the Weekend Writing Prompt from Sammiscribbles: Winners in 95 words. Fandango One Word Challenge prompt is Rugby. Ragtag Daily Prompt is Knit. The Daily Spur Word of the Day prompt is Toast. The three Things Challenge #M936 prompts are Juggle, Jest, Jury.
