1 Corinthians 13: 4-7 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
As we prepare for Valentine’s Day this week, the stores are filled with everything red to remind us to buy gifts for the ones we love. However, for me, the gift of the ability to give love and receive love is the greatest gift we will ever receive. The love that the Lord places in our hearts for others is greater than any other power on earth. It is love that is meant to teach us how to live among all of earth’s peoples, in ways that show respect for the humanity of us all. Real love requires patience, kindness, humility, honor, forgiveness, truthfulness, and acceptance.
Let us strive to truly love each other, particularly in these days in which politics divides the Lord’s people. 2 John, verses 5-6 states, “And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.” Nothing on earth tops the love of God in our hearts for each other. It is a power that can move mountains and heal the land.
Amen.
