I love the honesty of children! They see the world so differently from adults, mainly because they haven’t learned to watch every word for fear of offending one group of people or another. They speak from their hearts, not meaning to hurt feelings but seeking to express their beliefs as sincerely as possible.
On my 40th birthday, my oldest grandson, about seven, came to help me celebrate. He asked me how old I would be that day. I told him that I had turned 40. His little face crumbled, and tears came to his eyes. He looked at me with dread and asked, “Are you going to die?” I saw he was very anxious for me, and I assured him I would be fine. But, when he went to clean his face, I started laughing. To his young mind, 40 was ancient, and he knew that really old people tended to die. He is over 40 now, and we laugh about that day.
I wish we didn’t lose such innocence as we age, but would remain willing to speak our minds without stopping to think over every little word. Today, even while writing my blog, I wonder if some extremists on both sides of the political spectrum will take offense and stop following me or call me names. However, you need a good sense of humor and courage to grow old in today’s world when so many ridiculous things happen each day that would make great blogs. We need some laughter in our daily lives to keep us sane.
From the mouths of children is such a true expression of the wonder and honesty of children and their worldviews. They will keep you laughing, so I love having my great-grandchildren around me. They have no filters. Oh, how I wish we would allow them to remain that way and maybe join them in seeing the foolishness around us and calling attention to it without fear.

Truly, they are a blessing. They give us hope for the future and at times they are a laugh a minute! For your entertainment – When my oldest daughter was about three or four, she had a very innocent spirit. One day, we were having pork chops for dinner. She asked me, “Where does pork come from?” Not wanting to frighten her with ideas of killing animals, I just said, “It comes from a pig.” She looked at me with wide eyes and said, “Does it come out his nose?”
