Time to Pack, Make Lists, and Reserve Uber: We’re Traveling

It’s time to travel! School is done, and with graduation over, I am ready to board planes and fly off to places not yet seen and a few places we go every year. Last year, I chose the European cities we visited before flying to Portugal to be with family. We went to Bilbao, Spain, fulfilling a 25-year dream. This year, my husband chose Vienna and Budapest to take a boat trip down the Danube, which has been his dream for a while.

We are making lists, ensuring we have the Uber scheduled, can communicate with our Consumer Cellular account, and holding the mail. So much to get done. We decided to only take a carry-on bag and a small bag, so we don’t have to check any luggage, flying on low-cost airlines within Europe, which do not allow for big luggage without a hefty price. We are following Rick Steves’s advice to pack light and be mobile. It’s no hardship because I always bring home clothes I have not worn.

Then, we go to Portugal to spend three weekends with a child and her family, seeing grandchildren quickly growing into young adults. It’s easier for us to go to them than for them to come here, and it’s a great excuse to see the world. We are going this year in May and June because we learned not to visit in September when the rains are nearly constant and the beach might as well not be there.

So, I am making lists and checking them twice, as we prepare for more adventures. I have a wonderful travel companion who goes into “boss” mode when the airplane lands. Because he can find amazing opportunities for fun, never meets a stranger, and believes in taking the path least taken, we have great times and, yes, a few “are you crazy?” moments. So, here’s to another grand adventure. Keep us in your prayers. I will try to remember to write blogs and include pictures, but a travel blogger, I am not.
