We are so glad to be home, although it was difficult leaving the grandchildren in Portugal. I am looking for a dentist, because the fall I had in Vienna left me with sore teeth, and the dentist in Porto advised me that I had a hairline fracture of my jawbone or maxilla, and she could do nothing to help alleviate the pain. She told me to take ibuprofen. I was able to eat soft foods and be satisfied, but now, I need to find some help with this problem. My jaw still hurts as well.
The fall impacted my whole vacation, as I was continuously fearful of falling again. The streets in Vienna, Budapest, and Porto are cobblestoned and uneven. I looked down as I walked, so I missed a lot of scenery. Douglas also felt he had failed me, and he insisted on taking my hand as we entered or exited buses or trains, even when I said I was alright. I missed all of the Buda side of Budapest because the pain in my face was so awful. But I saw it on a boat trip down the Danube, so I am satisfied.
We had a long day of traveling yesterday, and I asked Douglas not to drive today. I remember last year when he drove after a nearly 24-hour travel day, he totaled my new car. I don’t want to go car shopping again this year. He has a long trip to make this weekend to serve as a lay delegate for our church at our denominational conference, so I want him to be rested thoroughly.
No matter how great a time you have on your travels, there is nothing like coming home to sleep in your own bed and only having to follow your own rules. It’s good to find everything as you left it. Our neighbor watched over our home, and I am grateful for wonderful neighbors.
Our pastor has left to start at a new church, and the new pastor doesn’t begin until July 13. I will preach this Sunday, so I need to write a sermon. I will also begin teaching the book of Amos for my Sunday School class on Sunday, so I have a lot of things to do. But I will rest the body and mind today, except for finding a dentist. That can’t wait. Home sweet home!
