Your life without a computer: what does it look like?

Saying my world would shrink without a computer sounds silly, but it’s true. Since I started blogging, I have connected with people around the world who are like friends to me. Following them on their blogs, I realize that no matter where we live, we all struggle to have the best life possible. I comment on their blogs, as if I am communicating with someone I have known all my life. The world seems to shrink as I laugh with them, pray for them, and learn from them.

When I write on my blog about my ailments or triumphs, they send comments of commiseration and happiness. They inform me that they are praying with and for me. They send me suggestions on how to fix situations, and I love letting them know how much their blog posts touch my soul with joy, laughter, and peace, especially when I haven’t been writing for a while due to illness or depression.

My friends are located in India, the United Kingdom, Mexico, the Philippines, Canada, Germany, Australia, Switzerland, throughout Europe, and in many states within my own country. There is no way I could visit with them every day and get to know their thoughts, hopes, joys, struggles, and triumphs if I didn’t have a computer. I would miss them so much. As someone who finds it difficult to make friends in person, I am grateful to the Lord God for these universal friends who enrich my life daily and make me feel valued in their lives. I try to write early, because some of them are hours ahead of me.

The computer has some faults, like the ugliness we encounter on social media, but it has brought people together around the world who would not have known each other otherwise. I profit from the poetry, the stories, the memes, the cartoons, and the pictures. I travel vicariously through their photos of their journeys to places I can only hope to see. Thank God for the computer. Let us use them to bring us together in one humanity.
