As Jaylen sat his his desk, working through lunch for the fourth time this week, he wondered how he had come to be in such a dead-end job. He had been part of a boy band, named the Heartbreakers, that had been famous. People came by the hundred to hear them sing, screaming their names to the rafters! He couldn’t go anywhere without people asking for autographs.
They had made a lot of money and their families lived well, for a short time. They hadn’t realized that their manager would receive such a large portion of their earnings, largely due to a lack of understanding of contracts and a failure to seek professional financial and legal advice. One day, they stood in the spotlights, darlings of the girls and admired by their friends, families, and even strangers. The next day, they were has-beens, sitting alone trying to recapture the glory days.
Jaylen missed the limelight, the limos, the girls screaming his name. However, life goes on, and one must work to survive. His previous stardom did not impress any potential employers. So, he finds himself in a job that he hates, unable to even rest and find some peace during lunch. It requires every moment of his time.
He ceased daydreaming about what was before and how he thought he would be an international star, living the good life far from this type of existence. He couldn’t afford to lose this job! He sighed, “Sometimes life just ain’t fair!”
