The Great and Marvelous Deeds of God: Sunday Devotional

Psalm 86:10-13 For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God.11 Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. 12 I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. 13 For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths, from the realm of the dead.

It is in the beauty of nature that some of God’s great and marvelous deeds are seen the clearest. Nature proclaims the reality of the Creator who spoke the world into being, creating flowers in vibrant, beautiful colors that soothe our hearts and move us to praise. The beauty of the Earth reminds us of God’s faithfulness and love, for He made us such a wonderful place to reside and find joy with each other.

The harmony among different types and colors of flowers reminds me that things and people don’t have to be alike to be beautiful or to share space. It is in the diversity of the colors that I find the meaning of togetherness in difference. Psalm 118:23 states, “This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.”

So, let us praise the Lord today for His marvelous and wondrous works, including creating all of us in His image. We are all beautiful and of value because we look like our Creator. Over the course of my life, He has delivered me from the realm of death, giving me a love and appreciation that, every day, seeing His great and marvelous works —including my fellow humans —is a blessing. Let us love each other, as the Lord loves us.

Amen.
