In a couple of weeks, I will have another back surgery! I learned to never say what you won’t ever do again! After the fall in Vienna in May and a subsequent fall in my bathroom in June, I have spent so much time at doctors’ and dentists ‘ offices. I have had six weeks of physical therapy, which has helped tremendously with my back. But I now have a crawling sensation in my right upper leg and along my lower back. The physical therapist told me it was a nerve issue, and she was right when she said I would need surgery.
I had to give in and have another CT myelogram, the procedure I hate worse than surgery. It showed a herniated disc in the lumbar 1-2 vertebrae, and upon seeing it for myself, I knew that I would have another surgery, because the pain and awfulness of the nerve compression is more than I can handle. I have also read about what can occur if I leave it as it is. So, it is better to do it sooner rather than later.
The only available date for the surgeon in November is my birthday. I would have to wait until December if I didn’t want that date. I would rather be pain-free in November. The young doctor with his wonderful smile responded that we would celebrate my birthday together. For my 50th birthday, I learned to drive a car. For number 74, I will be pain-free. I think I like that better than a new car!
I welcome your prayers on November 24 and every day of this season of pain and difficulty. I love November because I relish each birthday as a gift from God. I have passed the three score and ten, so each day is a blessing. Being in the hospital on your birthday is not anyone’s dream, but the thought of feeling a lot better and coming off the pain pills is the best gift I could receive. I want to go back to church and have my life back. Sometimes you must compromise and thank God for small favors, without complaints. I am trusting in God, the Great Physician.
