When You Can’t Do the Usual, Your Bosy Rejoices in the Rest

I am recovering from surgery for a herniated disk in the lumbar 1-2 vertebrae of my back. It’s been two weeks, and with the staples out, I am not experiencing as much pain. I have weaned myself off the OxyContin and will use Tylenol if the pain becomes unbearable again. But I am a doer, and I can’t do my usual things, like cleaning, writing, working at the church, and helping out wherever needed. So, not being able to go to the gym for two more weeks, bend, twist, lift more than 15 pounds for another four weeks, or drive until physical therapy strengthens my right leg is a bummer.

However, my body seems to have written me a poem:

I tried to get you to rest more, but you refused.

You continued to overdo and wear yourself out!

Although I hate the pain and strong medicines,

I’m so glad to finally get some rest, I could shout!

Listen to your body, because it knows when we need rest and relaxation, and that we can’t do it all and stay healthy. I learned the hard way. I hope you won’t have to. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas! I respect everyone’s ways of worship and the traditions they celebrate. Just be happy!
