Some of the happiest moments I remember were while celebrating the successes and happiness of others, such as my husband, children, friends, and strangers. Seeing the joy on others’ faces makes me happy, too. To witness someone else’s laughter, jubilation, gladness, and smiles at their good fortune fills my heart with peace and gratitude for them.
We went to California to attend the marriage of one of my husband’s nieces. The wedding was in a redwood forest, and the setting was so beautiful. As the bride and groom danced their first dance, they looked at each other with so much love and hope for the future. I felt happy that they had found someone they could share their lives with and create new memories with. With all of my husband’s siblings there, whom we had not seen since the death of their mother, and all of my husband’s children together for the first time in years, it was the most joyous of times. Laughter rang out between two families now bonded together by the wedded lives of two young people. What a happy day that was!
Romans 12:15 (NLT) states, “Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep.” Happiness is meant to be shared. We are expected to share in the joys of others, to wish others joyous moments, and to revel in the good fortune. For me, the happiest moments of life are those when others feel gleeful and content, celebrating marriages, births, graduations, birthdays, free of pain, grief, struggles, and trials. I am always glad to be invited to share in the happiness of the moment.
