Communicating Online Means Friends We May Never Meet, But Still Treasure

Daily writing prompt
In what ways do you communicate online?

I only communicate through my blog. My posts appear on WordPress, Tumblr, and LinkedIn. I like to write stories and poems, but I still stay true to the vision of the site I started over nine years ago: to use stories to encourage, motivate, and inspire people.

What has been so amazing to me, and very unexpected, is how much the people who follow your blog come to mean to you, and not just how many likes. We enter each other’s lives through the stories told, poems, and travels and adventures shared. I didn’t understand when I started blogging that people could be continents apart and still connect in ways I sometimes can’t do face-to-face.

We communicate across languages because human experiences are similar. Sickness, grief, triumphs, defeats, and a shared sense of justice and humanity render language differences irrelevant. I can still feel their joy, pain, dismay, anger, and sorrow, and I pray for them or celebrate with them, giving a heart shout-out or a poignant expression to let them know they are not alone.

So, even though I don’t write posts on social media platforms, such as X, Facebook, Threads, or any of the others, communicating through my blog to people who choose to subscribe and read what I have to say means that there are people that I treasure across the world for their concern, compassion, encouragement, and comments mean the world to me. Those connections give me hope that goodwill among people can exist, even in these turbulent political and crazy moments when I fear a world war is closer than we know.

I started this blog as a Christian blog, and it still is because my faith hasn’t changed. I just prefer to share the love of the Lord more through stories. But I do like writing my Sunday devotionals, when I can, as they help me to stay true to my beginnings and my calling to be a light to the nations.
