If someone were to write a biography about me, they would focus on all that I have survived that seemed impossible at the time the events were occurring. Each chapter would tell a story of persistence, determination, and, above all else, faith in the Lord. It would appear as if the stories told were fantasies, rather than the life story of a real person who came into the world with many disadvantages, including a segregated society, father absence, and a mother who couldn’t cope on her own.
A biography would express the incredulity of where I am today compared to where I started this life. Chapters would include: Overcoming Poverty, Becoming a Mother of Four in 24 Hours, Living the Dream of Teaching at 54, Surviving the Violence, Finding Love on the Internet: A 22-Year Love Story, and Becoming a Woman After God’s Own Heart. These are stories of survival against the odds, of faith in action, and of hope that never ends. They would encourage, inspire, motivate, and help others to never give up, no matter how hard the fight or what people say you can or cannot accomplish.
One lasting impression from this biography would be the resilience of the human spirit, which allows us to survive the wildernesses of our lives and succeed despite so many obstacles standing in our way. One lesson would be to never allow others to define your potential, value, or worth. Readers would also learn that sometimes you have to create your own paths, rather than take the easy paths already laid out. It may seem more arduous, but ultimately it is the only way to survive in the wilderness and make the impossible happen in a world where the most dangerous animals walk on two legs and look like us. Always believe in your worth and seek to be a help to others. I think it would be a book worth reading!
