I’d Let the World Know My Story in Two Words: Survivor and Persevere

Daily writing prompt
What tattoo do you want and where would you put it?

I will probably never get a tattoo, mainly because of the needle. I have had too many involuntary moments with needles, having small veins that run, to sit and endure voluntary pain. But, if I were to get a tattoo, and I still could find the courage, I would have two words placed on the front of my wrists: Survivor on my left wrist near my heart, and Persevere on my right wrist.

In this way, wherever I went, especially in the summer when we wear short sleeves, people would know how I see myself and my motto in life for reaching one’s full potential. I love how young women with tattoos wear fashion that ensures everyone can see them and know a small part of who they are.

I am a survivor because I chose to persevere in moments when others may have quit. I learned in my 20s that anything worth having meant moving forward, no matter how high the obstacles seem, one inch at a time, putting one foot in front of the other until I arrived at my destination.

That is the story of my life, and even in my 70s, I am still reaching for new dreams to fulfill and new areas of interest to pursue. My husband and I leave in a couple of weeks to find a new home in Portugal. I have just started reading the Chief Inspector Gamache books, going to the library to get the hardbacks, and am thankful not to have missed Louise Penny’s books and writing. You are never too old to pursue your dreams and find new interests.

So, these two tattoos would tell everyone I meet who I am and what I believe is needed to be successful and joyful in this life. I hope my tattoos will encourage and inspire everyone who sees them on my wrists to pursue their dreams and fulfill their potential. If asked, and I hope I would be, how I survived and persevered, I would tell the person that it was through my faith in the Lord and the assurance that I never walked alone. That is my story, in two words.
