I searched for my birth certificate yesterday. I had forgotten that it was so torn up, but I don’t have time to send for a new copy. We leave for Portugal in five days! We are scouting for a home there, to have more time with the youngest grandchildren, so we plan to stay for over two months to gauge things like health care. We are going all over the country, looking for the place that best suits our love of history, Roman ruins, long hikes, and, of course, beach and ocean views. I wanted to have my birth certificate, in case there are questions regarding my citizenship upon leaving or returning.
My children don’t want us to go, believing this isn’t a time to travel. But we have spent a lot of time and money on this trip, and we want to see our daughter and her family, who live in Portugal. I believe we will be safe, and if I encounter Anti-American sentiment anywhere, then I will remind people that I am not a politician and do not make any policy decisions. I won’t let fear keep me from going, but I will be mindful of being as safe as possible. I don’t take the warnings lightly.
The last six months of last year and the first three months of this year have been difficult ones for both of us. My husband and I both had surgeries, and it appears we caught mononucleosis from our daughter last year, and we just thought we were tired from a long trip. But I am on no medications now, and he has all of his medications for 90 days, so we are off. We will spend time resting and not try to see everything. We want to live about an hour from the family, but close enough to get help if needed. We want to be as independent as possible for people in their 70s.
So, here’s to a new adventure. I decided at the last moment to renew my WordPress domain and site, even though I don’t write as much as I used to, and I thought the price was too high for the amount of writing I do. I hope to increase my time writing when we are settled. But I couldn’t give up your blogs and the joy they bring me. Now that I feel better and have more energy, I hope to post more, including pictures of our journey. However, remember I am not a travel blogger, and I am still learning how to make collages and to work with more than one picture at a time. So, keep us in your prayers.
