Dreaming of the Next Grand Adventure: D’Verse Poetics

John Atkinson Grimshaw, Whitby Harbour (1882) public domain

Walking along the quay at night,

I watch the ships go slowly past.

I dream of being aboard one of them,

Sailing away from this life, at last.

The elegance of their movements

Across oceans gleaming in the dark

Calls to my wanderlust-filled heart,

Daring me to come along for the lark.

How I hunger for another grand adventure

That takes me to lands I’ve yearned to see.

My desire is much more than even I knew,

As I suddenly scream aloud, “Wait for me!”

Written for D’Verse Poets from sanaarizvi. I am not really a poet, but I loved the challenge of the lovely paintings offered.

  1. Welcome to the Poets Pub, Regina, and thank you for sharing your poem. I think many of us dream of the next grand adventure, particularly on seeing boats in a harbour, romantic and alluring, an escape from our current lives.

  2. This is so beautifully worded! I especially resonate with; “Across oceans gleaming in the dark/Calls to my wanderlust-filled heart/Daring me to come along for the lark.” 🙂

Thank you so much for writing to the prompt ❤️❤️
