The Second Performer: First Line Friday

Well I think it’s funny

That you refuse to understand

How nervous I get each time

I have to perform after your band.

People have listened to great music,

Cuddled up with their latest honey,

Then, I am expected to go on stage

And try to compete by being funny.

You tell me that I am being silly,

And to go ahead and get up there,

But, from my own personal experience,

I know their thoughts are usually elsewhere.

So, when I sit down on that stool,

Trying to redirect attention to me,

I have to be triple good with my jokes,

To keep from losing them completely.
