I have so many cousins whom I don’t know,
People I haven’t talked to in many years.
Are they to still be considered family,
When they’re not familiar with my tears?
Family, it seems to me, are those persons
Who are there in times bad and good.
These are the ones who’ll drop everything
When you need them, in true sisterhood.
The old adage that you can’t choose family
Doesn’t really apply for many folks today.
Family isn’t defined just by marriage or blood,
But includes friends, and whomever they say.
