I’m not the me whom I thought I would be,
I didn’t think that I’d reach my current age.
Dreams that seemed impossible came true,
In spite of the many personal battles I waged.
Doctors said I would never be a mother,
But I learned God alone plans our lives.
At 21, I adopted four lovely young ones,
And it was a quite wonderful surprise.
Then, I gave birth to beautiful Mac,
My magic number in life became five.
It was striving to give them the best
That gave my life meaning and depth.
I worked hard to leave poverty behind us,
And dreams were fulfilled in great breadth.
I’ve learned that it is the unexpected detours
That we often tend to think of so fearfully
Which will lead us to fulfillment in life,
And to where we were always meant to be.
Written for the OctPoWriMo 2019 Challenge of 31 poems in 31 days. The prompt for today is Me, or Who Am I?

Life shapes us beautifully! Wonderfully expressed.
