Jonathan, the boat owner, refused to join the us in the ocean, saying that he had too many daily chores to finish for such nonsense as enjoying himself. We were unhappy that he couldn’t see that sometimes you have to put the concerns of daily life aside and just enjoy being alive.
We continued to shout at him, “Come on, man! The water is glorious! Your chores will still be there, but you will have had some real fun today! Isn’t that what life is about?”
One by one we climbed back into the boat, saddened to leave the peace of the water. Michael told Jonathan that he just didn’t know what he was missing. Something in his voice must have penetrated Jonathan’s defenses, for suddenly he jumped in the ocean, shoes and all. Even though I was laughing myself silly, I had the presence of mind to take a picture of this momentous event, for I was sure no one would believe that Mr. Never-Stop-Working had finally given in to the mystery of the ocean’s pull.
Fictional story written for the Photo Challenge #306 from Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie. Also, the Three Things Challenge from Pensitivity 101: concern, unhappy, daily.
Another great response. Thanks for the inclusion.
