A Child's Hope Never Ends: Sunday Photo Fiction

Looking through the fence, expecting to see you arrive.

Your promises sounded so real that time around.

Mama’d told me not to get my hopes up too high.

But I couldn’t believe that you would let me down.

You didn’t even call me after the last time,

When I had daydreams of your boisterous laugh.

And I’d contemplated how a hug would feel so good,

Hanging on to precious memories from our past.

But as I looked through the wire fence hours later,

I suddenly knew that you were once again lying.

Yet, my hope never ended, even into adulthood,

And I’m here to sit with you today as you lay dying.
