I felt the heaviness of a sorrow too deep to name,
As I tried to understand the violence, but it was in vain.
Because love is never supposed to hurt or cause us pain,
I kept the bruises hidden, too embarrassed to proclaim
To anyone that I needed help, couldn’t get past the shame.
But, finally I prayed one night for enough courage to gain
To say no more to enduring the terror of this awful bane,
And clawed my way from under the tormentor’s chains.
