Caroline awoke with her beagle, Bailey, licking her face. “Stop, Bailey,” she said. “Mama trying to sleep!” But, Bailey wouldn’t cease from his attempts to wake her.
Dogs are sentient animals, capable of perceiving things. Because Bailey sensed that something was wrong with this woman he adored, he determined to wake her, so she could get help.
Caroline finally acquiesced. Feeling poorly, she tested her glucose levels, and they were dangerously low. As she drank a cola, she thanked her best buddy for his quick actions.
