A Firm Faith to Stand on God’s Words

Isaiah 7:9 “Unless your faith is firm, I cannot make you stand firm.”

When King Ahaz of Judah learned that the two kings of Syria and Israel were planning to attack Jerusalem, he and his people were scared, trembling “like trees shaking in a storm” (verse 2). The attack never happened because the Lord wouldn’t let the invasion happen. He had other plans for Judah, namely the Assyrians.

All the Lord asked of King Ahaz was to show firm faith in God’s words. The Lord was willing to prove Himself to King Ahaz by any sign of confirmation that he would request, but King Ahaz chose not to test the Lord’s abilities. Still, the Lord gave him a sign: a virgin will conceive a child, and she will deliver a son and name him Immanuel, meaning “God is with us”  (verse 14).

It was an early prediction of the coming of our Savior, Christ Jesus. Even then, the Lord was preparing for the forgiveness of the sins of His people. God still calls for a firm faith from believers, built on our certainty that God’s promises are sure, fueled by the fulfillment of the wondrous promise of Jesus’ birth and subsequent life, death, and resurrection.

And we must maintain a firm faith in the Second Coming of Jesus, knowing that God is not like humans, for He cannot lie, and His words do not return to Him void. A firm faith is built on developing a relationship with the Rock of our salvation, the Stone that the builders rejected, who has become the cornerstone of the Kingdom of God, Jesus Christ, our King.

When you feel attacked on every side, and fear becomes a constant companion, remember that God has plans for your life that give you hope and a future. Open your Bibles and read the prophecies in the Old Testament, then read the fulfillment of those prophetic words in the New Testament.

Be strengthened in your faith, standing with God’s help, persevering until your change comes, and realizing that God already knows the situation and the outcome. I am a living testimony that a firm faith in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit allows you to stand when life gets difficult and trying.

Amen.
