There is Peace in Knowing Troubles Don’t Last Always

Daily writing prompt
What brings you peace?

Last year in August, I had back surgery that cured sciatica in my right leg but caused weakness and numbness on the left side from hip to foot because the surgeon moved some nerves. Learning of the effort needed to return to normal, I felt angry and sad. But, I found peace when I reminded myself that by the same time the next year (now), I would be out of pain and vastly improved. I walk and exercise at the gym like before, although my leg isn’t normal.

I realized that regardless of the intensity of the struggle or difficulty, the day will come when the situation improves. It may hurt a lot immediately, but as each day ends, I get closer to the day when things will change. Psalm 30:5 states, “Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.” Night can seem to last a long time, but morning always comes. If I can concentrate on the joy that will accompany a change in the situation, I can find peace in the middle of my storms.

Peace doesn’t mean everything is good, but I don’t stress to the point of nearly having a stroke or a heart attack, which was how I used to be. Once I took the time to reflect on my survived trials, I understood that so much of the stress was from worrying about things that never came to be. So now, to bring peace in my life, I let go, put my faith in God, and hold on until my change has come.
