Testify to the Awe-Inspiring Acts of God: Sunday Devotion

Psalm 66: 1-6 Shout joyfully to God, all the earth! Sing about the glory of His name; make His praise glorious. Say to God, “How awe-inspiring are Your works! Your enemies will cringe before You because of Your great strength. All the earth will worship You and sing praise to You! They will sing praise to Your name.” Selah Come and see the wonders of God; His acts for humanity are awe-inspiring. He turned the sea into dry land, and they crossed the river on foot. There we rejoiced in Him.

Moses wrote of the awe-inspiring work of God as turning the Red Sea into dry land for the Israelites to cross into the Promised Land. Only through the testimonies of God’s awe-inspiring works in our lives can others who don’t know Him realize just how marvelous and glorious our God is. So, the psalmist commands us to praise God and tell others about His love’s wonders in the land of the living. His acts are awe-inspiring to those who are lost.

I was lost on the streets of Madrid, Spain, a woman alone in a place where I did not speak the language, and it was past midnight. Although people were walking their dogs, I was afraid to let anyone know that I was alone. I started to panic, not knowing the way to my hotel, and the more I walked, the darker the streets seemed.

Finally, I stopped and prayed, for I remembered the words of Joshua 1:9, “Haven’t I commanded you: be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” So, I said to God, “I don’t know where the hotel is, but You do, and you promised Joshua that You would be with us wherever we go. So, help me, Lord!”

The panic went away, and in my spirit, I heard a small voice instruct me to turn 180 degrees! I did, and suddenly, I saw a light about three streets away and started walking toward it. The light was from the candy store near my hotel. I know where to find sweets! I found my way to the hotel, and as I exhaled at being safe, I thanked my God for the truthfulness of His promises. It was miraculous because I am near-sighted and can’t usually see that far!

It was an awe-inspiring moment, and I love to share it with those who may be lost, not so much in a foreign city but in the everyday places of your lives. King David says in Psalm 62:8, “Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before Him. God is our refuge. SelahShare your testimonies of the awe-inspiring wonders of our great God, Creator, Redeemer, and Deliverer, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in One. Shout it out joyfully!

Amen!

  1. What a wonderful testimony of the way that God was with you although you were lost. Praying and listening got you where you needed to be. You were not lost, for the Lord was there with you, speaking to you on the way that you needed to go.
