No Place Like God for Refuge: Sunday Devotion

Psalm 62:5-8 Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress. I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.

We learn early in life that home is a place of refuge and care. Whatever happens in the world, once we are home, all is right with the world. But not every person had a safe place; instead, home was where the heartache and pain were. So, when we hear the saying that there is no place like home, I would extend that to add a greater source of rest and refuge: in the arms of God.

The salvation and honor we find in His presence help us make it in a broken and fallen land. He is like a fortress, an invincible place where victory over our enemies is assured. The psalmist commands us today to trust in the Lord God at all times and to pour our hearts out to him, revealing our hurts, disappointments, and suffering to Him, for He cares for us.

A refuge is a place or accommodation where one finds a safe space from this world and its uncertainties and pains. God is the only sure refuge, for we live, move, and have our being in Him. There, we find solace and immeasurable love.

Let us go to the Source of our salvation and hope today, praying to Him and revealing all that causes us to not meet our God-given potential. He will be a safe place and a listening ear, keeping us safe in His arms. There is no place like God.

Amen.
