Broken But Never Destroyed or Defeated: What Do You See?

I winced at his angry words, fueled by a wrath that frightened me.

I tried to avoid the tirade I knew would come, but unsuccessfully.

That he couldn’t break my faith in my worth is not because I am lucky.

It’s because I am a courageous woman, some would even call me plucky.

I learned that no one can take your power unless you give them clearance.

I will preserve my sense of worth, regardless of what’s said of my appearance.

I refuse to believe only one vile person could ever love me, especially a coward.

I’d rather live alone, visiting the florists and purchasing my own flowers.

So, though life may be hard, like living in an oven of tremendous heat,

I will remain unbroken and free, never destroyed or giving into defeat.
