People Who Can Laugh at Themselves Make the Best Friends

Daily writing prompt
What quality do you value most in a friend?

I can be serious, but even in my teaching and preaching, I utilize humor. Humor lightens the mood and makes very dense information easier to digest. Humor connects us, especially when we share a similar sense of humor that allows our hearts to bond. Humor can demonstrate the silliness of life without causing hurt feelings and offense.

A friend who helps you see the absurdities of life is a life-saver, for they take us out of ourselves and remind us to let go of the heaviness of the news and social media that so many of us tend to carry with us. I want to lunch with someone who is cognizant of the difficulties of this life but is able to give me the peace and belief that all will be well that laughter engenders in our hearts and souls.

Two people too serious to see that life is crazy sometimes, but who thinks that to laugh denotes a lack of maturity regarding doesn’t add anything to each other’s lives. So, give me a friend who can laugh at the world and at themselves but also can be serious when the time deserves it, and I guarantee you that your mental health will be better for knowing them.

I try to be that kind of friend.

  1. Your acknowledgment of humor’s power to connect and lighten the mood is insightful. You seek a friend who shares your appreciation for laughter but also understands when seriousness is required. Your commitment to being that kind of friend reflects empathy and compassion, enriching the lives of those around you. Keep being the light-hearted yet thoughtful friend you strive to be, for your presence brings joy and comfort to others.
