Reading Brings Much-Needed Light into the Darkness of Ignorance

Reading gives us first-hand knowledge of the world.

It brings light into our hearts and into our souls.

The darkness of ignorance that divides us into categories

Keeps us from knowing we need each other to be whole.

Reading opens worlds untold and dares us to see

Similarities in the struggles that life continues to be.

Human beings everywhere seek love, kindness, safety,

And prosperity enough to bring us joy and peace.

Ignorance of how others live shouldn’t continue

In a world with so many wonderful stories to peruse.

Grab a book and let the light defeat the darkness,

To continue in pleasant ignorance, there is no excuse.

  1. I have taught English to international and immigrant students for forty years, possibly students from nearly every country imaginable. I can say of a truth that your words are true. People everywhere just want love, kindness, and security. They want to have a place to raise their children. They want to work and make a livable wage. We are truly all brothers, children of God, representing different aspects of His beautiful nature.
