Jet Lag Results in Becoming a One-Car Family Again! How Sad!

We came home, after 22 hours of traveling on Thursday, October 3. My husband decided on Friday, October 4, to go in my car to the collision center to check on, ironically, the repairs to our 2020 Chevrolet Bolt that needed a new hatch door after he had backed into a much bigger truck. After learning that the Bolt was ready, he took my car to get some groceries, intending to have the collision center pick him up later to return for his car.

However, going to the store, he was involved in a bad wreck, as you can see from the picture. Thankfully, neither he nor the occupants of the other car were seriously hurt, although he is still a little sore in places. He says that he looked down to check something on the dashboard and when he looked up again, the car in front had stopped for a light. He swerved and tried to miss the other vehicle. But slowed by jet lag, I believe, he couldn’t avoid hitting it. All of the airbags deployed in the car, and he had a time getting out of it.

I am grateful to God for saving his life because when I saw the car at the same collision center that fixed it, I nearly fell to my knees in thankfulness. We had just changed auto insurance company because the monthly premium went up over $140 a month from the first incident! Amazingly, the new insurance company has processed the claim and paid off the bank and me for my car. I am deciding whether to get a new automobile or remain a one-car family. I didn’t drive a lot, maybe two or three times a week. My car was a year old and had less than 11000 miles on it, so I think we can make it with just his car, but I may need to drive more.

I know it seems crazy but while I am thankful for my husband’s life, I am mourning the loss of my car. I think it’s because I loved driving it, and I felt safe in it with all of the safety features. It was a 2024 Honda CR-V Sport Hybrid, and it drove so smoothly on long trips, quiet and wonderful. It came to seem a part of my identity and I was proud of it. But it was only a car. Right? The garage seems empty without it. I will decide if at age 72 I want another car note. Goodbye, Big Red! Thanks for the memories!
