To Have a Bird-Eye View of the World!

Julia looked up at the lone bird sitting on the power lines and envied it. She knew that it takes guts to go through life alone, as she had been doing since her beloved husband, Charles, had died ten years ago. The confusion that gripped her in the first days of his passing made her think that she wouldn’t be able to survive without her partner and friend. Guests came and went, and she tried to exchange small talk and express her gratefulness to them, but it was just too hard to act as if life would still be normal.

The bird looked so confident and strong sitting there alone, and Julia wished that she had that bird’s view of the world. She imagined that it could see where it was headed, so it didn’t worry about failures and disappointments. A bird’s eye view must be great for spotting the obstacles that one will encounter, so you can create a way around them in advance, something that humans can’t achieve. It seems that, unlike the birds of the sky, we stumble through life, unaware of what lies ahead.

But, as she continued to watch the bird, she wondered if maybe she was romanticizing the bird’s life. After all, birds have predators that they must avoid. They are at the mercy of the weather and the insensitivity of humans who destroy their natural habitats. A sudden thought made her laugh: What if the bird was sitting up there watching her and envying her shelter, her safety from dangers, and the food in her refrigerator and cupboards that she just went to the store to obtain, never having to worry if the bird feeders in the neighborhood were full or finding food for the little ones.

Julia watched as the bird flew away, and she reckoned that just as she had learned to live alone and handle the trials and tribulations of her life with as much joy as possible, the bird would survive as well.
